Finished John Corvino's section. I'm not sure I have enough ibuprofen to get through Maggie's section in one go.

The first chapter of this book is very curious: it seems to try and "sell" me the book in this strange way, even though I am already holding a copy in my hands (albeit from the library).

If there were an anti-patterns directory for books, a ten page sales introduction would be amongst those anti-patterns.

Not, as the name might suggest, an instructional handbook. Compared to most 'queer theory', it's actually readable, but that might have something to do with the fact that Halperin is more interested in Bette Midler than some barmy theoretical Haraway/Butler transgender cyborgs.

I'm not a young woman and I know that feminism matters. Valenti's writing style is breezy and readable.
