The author had fun with the satire, and so did I. If you take it for what it is, it’s an easy, fun, comfort book…poking fun at Freida’s books and fandom, amongst many other things. I honestly enjoyed it just as much as her others. *I too enjoy Nickelback and hate pennies

Everything is centered around the deceased husband but the author has failed to give us reasons to care about him. Just because they mention him doesn’t mean we get the gravity of their loss…which is a huge part of the plot and conflict.

Less sexy dialogue and more emotion would give this book merit.

9 hours in and this man has yet to demonstrate any actual emotion or grief over the death of his supposed best friend. All his hang ups are about Sloan. Even if he loves her, wouldn’t he miss friend even a little?!

ALOT OF internal dialogue/overexplaining emotions. Too much.

The female narrator on the audiobook is not good. No emotion in her voice and not much inflection. Very dry. The male is more believable.

I underestimated this book! The storytelling is SO GOOD. So many wise gems and heartbreaking, yet insightful black history anecdotes. Feels like I’m listening to one of my aunties telling family stories.

I wanted more with Verity, and I think his name was Monk, but maybe there will be another book with them as a spin-off. Neevah’s sister had me heated! lol The character development was great, but I’d rate the book higher if they had spent more time with them getting to know each other. They had a lot of sexual chemistry but the love itself felt forced. Another great Kennedy Ryan read! 4/5

I laughed. I cried.

The book had just enough detail to keep the reader invested. Deja’s character was an incredibly realistic depiction of a teen in angst. I love how the mother daughter dynamic was included. It gave more significance to the overall love story. I’d be interested to read a Soledad spin-off. Hendrix was my least favorite character. All in all, an amazing read!
