A very good read. Especially enjoyed the offering by Doug Allyn, a great storyteller.

Just when you thought man's inhumanity to man could not be less, the words of survivors from the most brutal and horrific period of our age come back to life. Floating in the ocean with bones sticking out of his leg as the transport ship that had carried him and hundreds of other American prisoners sinks, pfc Victor Mapes swims away as the Japanese shoot and kill anyone left living and within range.

a book that must be read and absorbed slowly.
