So 50% is the book, the 2nd half is about the book, i.e. about the sources. The topic is interesting and I'm fairly familiar with the New Testament, but Aslan's presentation threw me off in that he goes over the same time span several times from different angles and doesn't refer back to a previous mention of the same event. One could get confused about the chronology. There is timeline, though not easily accessed.

The author takes the reader through Classical Music. It's something I am familiar with, but I'm not skipping chapters.

I thought I was fairly good at German history, but alas, I've botched the matter. This Englishman offers delightful insights from outside. You see me frantically filling in the blank spaces in my knowledge.

In a young-reader fashion, the story moves along fairly quickly, without much descriptive detail. If you haven't delved into ancient Greek mythology, you will, after this book. Carl gives the ancient myths a surprisingly fresh twist. The story would make for some fabulous illustrations, or even a game.

Railway station: need to keep warm. Thus ended up in a bookshop. Should have known better. This must be the last printed book I'll buy. Seriously considering to get the ebook. Can't stand the weight of this thing, and it's soooo hard to put it down.

and I can't get myself to finish it. The story muddles as it goes on.
