Lem with more biology?

Is this frustration I’m feeling intentional I wonder.

Unless some miracle happens eventually I think I’m going to hate this book. What in the Freudian bullshit is this.

“… coming to terms with views long held by indigenous peoples”何尝不是一种“科学家花了两百年爬上山顶才发现山顶住着神学家” 但是每个山顶都有神学家 把量子物理迁移成一种泛神论世界观何尝不是在精神自嬷

First 50 pages reads like a sci-fi version of the Man who was Thursday, the next 50 pages reads like Brave New World mixed with Ubik.

Somehow “Jen, Jen, Jana’s, Joy, and Jiselle” never failed to amuse me. Just the sequence of words itself.

I think the author has a crush on Carl Sagan but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

I think I have seen this potential evolution trajectory of human in a (possibly Korean?) comic, in which -spoiler alert-we eventually evolved into a container of brain for aliens who like to eat brains. Dunno whether it’s related yet.

26% in, we finally encounter the mention of DNA.

An archaeology book coming out in 2021 still mentioning junk DNA is a good sign that you aren’t necessarily the expert of the technique you use lol.

“(Ancient Greek) is like the American South before the civil war, where democracy did not apply to all the people.” Then it’s not democracy lol.

Author said coin is a social development because (1) coin is the same price in anyone’s hand; (2) earning coin is earning status; and (3) a bottom up economy is organic. This chain of logic sound dangerously capitalistic and we are still in the Lydian time.

Is there any reason why a story of humanity has to be Eurocentric. Eww.

“His job, and it was always a he in those days, was to…” well at least it’s getting better.

“There was no fortune for [my mother coming from northern England to look for fortune] but we are lower middle class.” Like what the f?

“My colleagues, alpha males or inspired to be…” what the f?

Looks like m not alone on this matter of misogyny: https://www.reddit.com/r/printSF/comm...

Talk about loonies being apolitical beings then women as their seconds. Yikes.

Didn’t know robotic gastronomy would be a thing?

“Michelle is so much a woman than Mike is a man.”

“Ugly laughs only reserved for minorities”? Hello?

It’s losing me

Author sounds like he is neurodivergent.

So far m giving it a 3.
