“I feel like the Psalmist wandering through the wasteland… and some think- piece writer would pop up from a gopher hole and yell ‘have you tried finding a better work-life balance?’” Me too, Tish.

“One’s own free and voluntary wanting, one’s own caprice, however wild, one’s own fancy, though chafed sometimes to the point of madness— all this is that same most profitable profit, the omitted one, which does not fit into any classification, and because of which all systems and theories are constantly blown to the devil.”

Did Anne Lamont really just crawl into my brain, set up a tent inside, and camp out for a couple weeks to observe my behaviors and thought patterns when writing? Even down to the hypochondriac tendencies? I love this woman.

The snark in this book is so great.

“Educators and other scholars who buy info Howard Gardner’s notion of multiple intelligences would say that these people posses a high degree of interpersonal intelligence. Whatever.” (Pg 56)

That’s just one example. I love academic writings with snark!

I got this book as a gift when I graduated college two years ago and I’m only now starting to read it.

Danielle Dye is on page 71 of 126 of Beyond the Music Lesson: Habits of Successful Suzuki Families
Honestly, reading this book is even challenging me to stick to daily habits. Not even just practicing my instrument, but other things in life. I think the quote that’s sticking so far is “it takes more energy to decide whether or not to do something.” I’m going to have to message Christine and ask why she’s gotta be real like that 😂
