an encouragement to others who are curious about the end of the dark ages and Christianity in Northern Europe. the footnotes and appendices are interesting I'm reading it in a book club. I'm behind. Not a good choice for anyone with a reading impairment.

Will read more later. It's very good overview. I need a change of pace.

I'll read this faster than Glass Bead Game. I chose it for crime, era, setting and author.

reference book... most likely will be reading it piece by piece. I like origin of law and common law as well an tribe/clan culture to city-state.

Best history of politics text that I have ever read. I can't wait for it's sequel. I'm impressed with the overall theme of tribe/clan culture shift to city/state culture. The chapter regarding the origins of law is particularly good. I don't read this book in linear order.

Very interesting overview... another non fiction that works best not as cover to cover read. I'm focusing on change from clan rule to state rule
