This book is very engaging and descriptive going through life in the Checkerboard area surrounding Navajo Reservation during the prewar time and how this group of Navajo men bonded and created they breakable code. It also discusses some of the horrible things the BIA did to the natives during the depression. Something I did not know.

Uhhhh I decided to try reading one of these romance Christmas books and I think I’m losing some of my intelligence with each sentence. But, I’ll finish it.

This book is very heavy but I find it important to read not only the heroic stories of war and Women’s roles within it but also the real dark experiences that might give me nightmares because it is a genuine reminder that war is filled with sadness, trauma, death and we should do whatever we can to avoid it.
