Having been to Kew Gardens many times I found this a wonderful short story. It brings up very vivid images of the gardens. The story itself looks at snippets of conversations taking place within the gardens itself

Here is another wonderful novel by Daphne Du Maurier. She never ceases to amaze me with her writing style. Here we have the story of Mary Anne, born into poverty, a father selling a local rag and later becoming an absentee father. These early experiences shape her life, her future. She wants to influence men, she is ambitious. But blind ambition goes so far, especially if she doesn’t listen to advice given.
