Picked this book up again and I hate how much of the plot they changed in the movies :/

They really could’ve done without this book tbh

My gosh I have such a love/ hate relationship with books about slavery. This is breaking my heart 😭

I’m finally actually reading this and I’m a few pages in. It shocks me how much we have/had normalised predatory men, even as teens. This is from both the authors perspective in writing it (who was 13 at the time) and a generation who were reading it at a similar age.

Like what do you mean your friend’s brother comes behind you to dance while you’re in her room vibing to music? 😭

I’ve realised I don’t like Freida McFadden’s writing style, it’s like reading a book on Wattpad

I’m only on chapter 3 but I’m struck by something. Often people, particularly Africans, are quick to label people’s reactions to their lack of consideration as jealousy. And how the swiftness in labelling it this, is directly linked to our lived experiences and relationship with jealousy. And also their implicit bias that they think they’re better than the said-jealous person

I’m 2 mins into the book and honestly, capitalism is a disease

The book is already wayyyy better than the movie, and I loved the movie!

Katniss’ personality is a lot more nuanced, which makes her more likeable. But I’m also realising she actually always fancied Peeta - the movies made it seem more one sided.

I don’t think I really like short stories… especially when I’m in a busy season because there’s nothing really enticing me to get back to the book. It ends before it really begins 😭

One of the more frustrating parts of this book and Kehinde’s character, is her naivety. Like girl.

Sigh this book reminds me of The Girl with the Louding Voice 😢 I’m both excited and nervous to see the story unravel

Currently re-reading to try and get me out of a reading slump, and I went to see a play “Twine” that reminded me of this book
