The ire directed at academics and institutions looking to 'decolonise' Shakespeare or read his work in relation to its prob- lematic qualities is rooted in the fear that problematising Shakespeare somehow makes him uncomfortable or unpalatable. I have worked at the heart of the beast for a long time and I know that Shakespeare was not concerned with his audience's comfort, at least not much.
