Conflict: The conflict of the story is character vs. society, because Atticus Finch, a lawyer in Maycomb County goes against usual behavior to support his beliefs. He faces a serious case, appointed to defend a colored man. People downgrade him, causing rumors and a disgrace to the family name. Despite that, Atticus teaches his children the importance of respect and etiquette, as conscience grow in the Alabama town.

Purpose and Audience: The purpose of the novel is to both educate and entertain an audience. The novel is in the realistic fiction category with fictional characters, but the theme of the story is to convey an important message about race and prejudice through the eyes of two children. The audience is targeted towards readers in the young adult range, from 7-12th grade, though adults may enjoy reading it as well.

Making Connections: A connection I made in the novel is a text to self connection. Scout and Jem are two curious children, always nosing in the neighbors' business. They are constantly finding absurd, but creative ways to keep themselves entertained. I can relate to the two children because in my toddler stage, I always played pretend with my brother and was curious about what happened outside of my neighborhood.

Hailey Ro is finished with Stars Above (The Lunar Chronicles, #4.5)
The epic scene of the climax in this novel's plot is the one-on-one battle between the main character, Cinder, and antagonist, Queen Levana. Using their mind powers against one another to overpower each other, Levana finally surrenders. The sneaky antagonist, however, was merely lying and plunges a knife into Cinder's heart, though not before she dies. Luckily, because her heart is made of silicone, she survives.

Hailey Ro is finished with Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)
A couple supporting characters in this novel is royal guard, Liam Kinney and head thaumaturge, Aimery Park. The purpose of Kinney is his loyalty to Cinder, and later in the novel he assists with Cinder in her reclamation of the throne. Aimery is a distraction in the plot, serving the evil queen. His duty as an evil sidekick is the opposite from Kinney, though both play the role as assistants to the main characters.

The visuals in this novel bring visual scenes and images to my mind. For example, a scene in the story I picture clearly was the final war. It was the battle in which Cinder and her allies defeat the queen. The blood, suspension, and quickness of the following events was written very vividly. Also, the author illustrates the character's emotions and personalities, making it seem like I know each character personally.

Connections I have made with the novel, Fairest (the backstory of the antagonist Queen Levana), is her relationship between her sibling. This a text to self because Levana does not get along well with her sister, relatable to my brother and I. Another connection is text to text because this novel is very similar to Snow White, and both stories have devious queens who wish to be the fairest over their stepdaughters.

Hailey Ro is finished with Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)
Cinder, the main character of this novel, has very unusual characteristics. Cinder feels upset and confused because her family thinks she's a cyborg freak and Cinder just recently discovers that she is Lunar, a cruel species that lives on the moon. Cinder makes many rash decisions, though she always puts others before herself. The dialogue reveals that Cinder is stubborn, but is very strong willed and hardworking.

The antagonist of this autobiography of a migrant is not a physical being. The antagonist is a struggle, as poverty and racial differences/discrimination rise. Frances and her huge family in New Mexico suffer from the Great Depression and must move to California. This is because Frances's family experienced hardship over the years, and the only way they can survive is by accepting new opportunities in California.

Hailey Ro is finished with Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1)
The genre of the story is fantasy, young adult, and science fiction. The novel is fantasy because it includes fairies, elves, gnomes, and dwarves with special healing powers. The book is also young adult, due to the context and plot. This novel can also be considered science fiction, because it is based in the future with exotic technology, such as glasses being able to see through anything, and unimaginable weapons.
