I'm back! So far, I'm liking it. Not like love it to the bones type of liking, but this needs a thorough and second reading to like it type of liking. Yeah, that made no sense. Anyway, I have high hopes how this book will continue.

The Homestead by Maximo Ramos - 4/5

Maximo Ramos is known as the "Dean of Philippine Lower Mythology," and because of this expertise, he is able to craft stories that can horrify you. The Homestead is set in the jungles of Mindanao, specifically around Lala in Lanao del Norte, and it is here that he crafts a bone-chilling folk story where the threat isn't supernatural -- it's nature itself.

Evening Meal by Hernando R. Ocampo - 3.5/5
I feel this is more of a flash fiction type of story than the other stories in the collection so far. The story pokes fun at the extravagant customs that Filipinos have when there are visitors in their home. His work serve as a reminder that our dinner won't always be golden eggs and scrumptious pochero, instead, we may just have fried fish and tomatoes left in our cupboard

Nocturne by Veronica L. Montes - 4/5

Even if we did have all the riches in the world, there is always going to be that one thing we would desire the most. In this story, it's the ability to bear a child. The atmosphere is hauntingly beautiful, in the sense that it perfectly encapsulates the longing, tranquility, and sadness that the couple feels.

City of Grass by Conrado V. Pedroche - 4.5/5
Filipino short stories are madly inventive when it comes to injecting color, character, and charisma in their texts… it limbos between reality and imagination. City of Grass is exactly that — meticulously crafted yet purposefully written in a way that still tries to bite back with its commentary on the Philippines’ (still) current political state.
