Although only the first paragraph is plagarised from Athena's notes, this time others have evidence of Athena's writing. Although Athena's mother seems to understand that her own daughter could not write a novella about mother-daughter issues, she presses June on whether she should be concerned about the Last Front.

She meets with Geoff, Athena's writing ex-boyfriend who had a dramatic fall from grace. He threatens June that he knows she stole Athena's work by stating Athena and he had talked about the general subject and plot points. June however feints that she is willing to bribe him, which he takes as his chance to blackmail her. Having secretly recorded this conversation, June refuses threatening to publish the evidence.

The tunnel is completed. Divided halfway by a wall made of the xenonite. We finally see what Eridians look like: rock like spiders with 5 arms/legs and no face. Each arm has 3 fingers. They use a base number of 6. They seemingly have a 5 hour day, but most surprising of all is that they seemingly use sound waves to "see".

Chips away a piece of the hull and throws it over to the Eridians who plan to build a tunnel between the two ships. Like their ship movements, the robot copies Dr. Grace's wave from last time. Seemingly continuing to wave as it has no prompt to stop, so Ryland walks back inside. Actual food on Day 10 of his post-coma trip, a room temperature burito.

Whilst viewing the Petrova line, a huge cluster of IR light flashes. A large cluster of Astrophage. However after it stops emitting light, it blocks the Petrova line on the screen. Turning off the filter reveals it as an object, another spacecraft. Alien life. Next a cylinder object is flung slowly at Project Hail Mary. The objects inside the cylinder state they are from 40 Eridian system.

It's taken 4 years for Dr Grace to reach Tau Centi. Of which he has memory where a bankrupt Thailand medical company study found that there is a coma-brain-fog resistant gene thought in the "junk DNA" of humans and apes that will allow medically induced comatose to be use on the astronauts to prevent them from resultant infighting studied by the Russians.

Works out Astrophage react to the carbon light emitted by Venus and the Sun. Accidentally discovers the polar carbon IR light frequencies control how they reproduce. Goes on a long fighter jet-aircraft carrier-helicopter-more fighter jets-hopping journey to a Chinese aircraft carrier housing many of the other top scientists working on Astrophage. Asked if they can replicate reproduction on mass scale for use as fuel.

Awaken from a presumed coma. Slurring speech. Coherent thoughts. Robotic arms, tubes, IV drips, and electrodes. Unknown identity. Flashback memories. Two other dead humans. Increased gravity. Metal hatches. Giant test lab. Finally our protagonist Dr. Ryland Grace remembers his occupation but importantly his name. Accesses the control room and realises the sun on the screen isn't the one he's accustomed to.

Marianne in Sweden with a degrading relationship with Lukas. Connell's anxiety turning into severe depression after the suicide of Rob. Eventual break up with Helen who is rightfully jealous of the close relationship between Connell and Marianne.

I cannot possibly summarisee all the events since but, on-off, more familial issues, more parties, scholarships secured, more drinking, more alone time, more self-loathing, more other partners, more just friendly communications, more everyone else in the room stares, more unspoken lingering, more eyes looking elsewhere, more pandering laughter.

Their fling begins and just before the end of summer term, Connell leaves for home over the break. No words are said, but Marianne tells everyone they've broken up.

Embarrassed about the new vulnerable feelings he is experiencing, he chooses to firmly reject the notion of changing how others see him at school. Hirai goes back in time attempting to make her sister happy before her fated journey home by promising her that she would return to home. Unbeknown to her Kumi isn't elated because it would mean Hirai would take over and Kumi could be rid of running the Inn, but that it was her dream to run it together with her sister. Hirai hesitant to leave, is persuaded by Kei in order to keep her promise.

A young girl from the future comes to meet Kazu, having their photo taken with a digital camera. Hirai the bar owner outside the cafe has returned after the funeral of her younger sister Kumi, whom had died in car crash on her way back, after she avoided her in the cafe. After reading the letter left by Kumi that Hirai had given Kei to dispose of, she sits in the chair.

A Hunger Artist: A man whose craft of fasting for long periods of time sees a decline in appreciation for his craft. Soon he is signs with the Circus, his last resort at rekindling the past excitement from the public of days past. Weeks past and soon the novelty of his act disappears and the demand for his cage grows. At last we learn he fasts as his life's purpose and at peace a panther is brought into his cage...

So the last defender of the machine perishes with it, the Officer sacrificing his life as if it has no purpose if he cannot convince a foreigner of its usefulness, the machine losing parts as it operates.

Certainly it seems the machine is a metaphor for the machine of system, of government or belief.

The apparent demanding efforts of the Officer to explain the machine to the Explorer is as an attempt to convince him to join in his plan to demonstrate to the New Commandmant that the machine is needed and just.

The Explorer's simple refusal however is enough to completely unravel the composure of the Officer who orders the immediate release of the Condemed man.

The most typical explanation of a machine from a pompous nepo brat in the history of forever. Also the demonstration of such injustice and inhumanity.

Soon the financial burden left by Gregor worsens to the point they begin selling off jewellery and begin to accept lodgers. The family growing weary and frustrated at this surreal situation begin to grow hateful towards Gregor. Soon they stop bringing food to him nor clean his room. Soon following some fateful events, his father laments that they must "get rid" of Gregor. As if fated, Gregor dies overnight.

The family begin life with Gregor as an insect. Initially only his sister seems willing to help Gregor by feeding him and cleaning the room. The family begin discussing finances and his father reveals he still has some financial instruments Gregor believed was lost in the fire that ravaged his father’s business and set him on his path as a travelling salesmen.

Metamorphosis - Gregor having unbeknownst to him turned into a beetle overnight, is shocked to find he has slept in an hour and half late. Afraid of the consequences that may be handed down to him at work, he attempts to hurriedly get dressed and onto the 7AM train. He is alarmed to hear that his chief clerk has arrived to query his condition.

The Judgement - The friend has the strongest connection to all the characters, so strong in fact that Georg feels panicked that his father manic acting may very well be his true form. Unsure on the ideological themes at play, maybe something on the consequences of your decisions and the concern you hold when you delay some of them.
