i read it years ago and didnt realize what was going on. its a perfect book for just opening to a random page and seeing what the story is

This is a book to visit slowly and carefully

i am loving this book. the concept feels so fresh: a world that's becoming more and more magical every day, and a couple groups of elites intent on tightening their control of the world they've already conquered.
Themes of this book include: organized religion/imperialism, disability, magic, chosen family, fighting anti-blackness, art.

So many good things I'm learning from this book: Luganda morphology, Uganda/Buganda history, how magic works, intergenerational magic, intergenerational trauma, medicine, gender. I'm in love with it.
