I wouldn't say this is dark tbh? So much as MC is being adopted by a local witch. But the day is young!

I realize the characters views don't always represent the authors but having a character say adoption doesn't count as having a real baby is a bit. Hm. Like I already didn't care about these characters but now I'm starting to actively dislike them.

What a pleasure to have made this childhood favorite my first full book to read in Japanese :)

I definitely get the sense that this is part of the author's other setting because there's just so much in the world building that I see has been a labor of love. But absolutely love how it's being introduced without (at least for now) being overly explained.

Started listening to this on a whim on my drive to work this morning and I'm IMMEDIATELY sat.

Still slow going, but it's fun to see how the tone of the characters' different speech patterns has been translated from the English!

Trying to push through the intimidation of reading it in a foreign language and finally forcing myself to make some progress!
