Well. I'm getting emotionally throttled here. I'm in this book and don't like it. Not insofar as the emotional immaturity bit, but just... lots of things.

"...because there was not intelligence enough in the leaders to devise a means of distributing an oversupply of food. They remember that every plan for general good life is dashed to pieces on the wall of necessary profits."

"...unless some machinery...some clear method is shown, he is likely to believe only in that freedom which Anatole France defined--the equal freedom of rich & poor to sleep under bridges."

Can't find my edition (hardcover and apparently with the same isbn as this one, but different page count), but whatever. I'm on page 260 of 914, according to my book. Getting back into The Wheel of Time finally (in part due to my loan of the audiobook to listen to while doing other tasks instead of only sitting with my book having to end in a few days). So far, it's a refreshing, enjoyable return for me after Book 3.

"'...things seeped through...always quietly...indirectly. So people heard rumors and the rest they could guess. Of course, most people [didn't] believe the stories of Jews or...opponents of the regime. It was naturally thought...such persons would all exaggerate.'

Rumors, guesses enough to make a man know if he wanted badly to know...always involving persons [who'd] be suspected, 'naturally,' of exaggerating." (91)

I think I may have found my first 5 star of the year.

(Unless I finish some other book at that level first, or the author seriously fumbles this book.)
