I know that what I’m taking away from the book so far is not what I’m supposed to be taking away from it, but … I just really want career advice from Sashi

I started reading this book last year because I thought, ‘if I ever get a particularly scary diagnosis, I’ll probably be so freaked out I won’t want anyone’s advice about what to do. So better I read up on it while I’m not super defensive or distracted, and keep the info in the back of my mind.’

It’s been a good read and probably is the kind of book everyone should flick through once in their lives ~

Unsure if I’m going to be able to read this book, as it has a kind of annoying ‘hey girlies let’s put on our lipstick and go slay The Patriarchy’ vibe, but I’ll try my best. I just find that books talking about ‘The Patriarchy’ (that old dumb thing!) tend to have rubbish feminist analysis, whereas books that talk about patriarchy (with no article) are much more theoretically sound.

The chapter ‘Death of a Poet’ about the women in the literary scene was so heartbreaking. It will really stick with me.

This book is going to require a lot of quiet ‘staring at the wall’ time to digest, it brings up so many frustrating institutional and systemic failures, so many thoughtless and arrogant choices which continue to result in widespread suffering ~

The more I read, the more I want to design my ⚰️ and prepare for the *afterlife*

I will still finish it though, love hearing about Bill’s rich friends

I’m almost embarrassed to say publicly that I’m 80% of the way through this (sorry writer/s, but it’s true). I got to the bit about giving yourself rewards ‘like one chocolate — just one — if you finish writing A WHOLE CHAPTER’ and I basically dry retched

‘Reward yourself with a tiny mouthful of WWII rations but not too much you greedy pig’
