This is horrifically boring and entirely unengaging. Nothing like the earlier books. Ho-hum! I've just started chapter 11. Here's hoping this gets appreciably better!

This is truly awful! I'll finish it, but then I'll beat myself up wondering why I finished it.

Why do I slog on? This is only marginally more interesting than when I was at 22 percent. If I couldn't 3X this, I'd have kicked it to the contemptable curb hours ago! This music geek author wants to impress readers with all the details he has amassed about Cole's music. I fear that kind of obsession doesn't come without paying a price somewhere else in his life. I can only hope the price wasn't too steep.

I've hated every page of this so far. It's an endless morass of nearly meaningless names and dates. I signed on for a biography, not a boring-as-hell discography with comments, be they ever so well researched.

Nolan is 25% done with Lee and Grant: A Dual Biography
If you can read chapter six in this book about Grant's constant failures between the Mexican and the Civil Wars without emotion, you may be in serious and terrible trouble in your heart and head. I was brought to tears by that chapter more than once. Entire book is magnificently readable. Excellent writing.

This is a super-long biography of Douglas McArthur. Pride goeth before the fall, especially in this guy's case!

He hated the musical "1776!" I feel so validated--so justified--so relieved. I hate that thing, too!

Outstanding so far. Angie Curtis has secrets that fascinate me almost as much as finding a solution to the two murders.

Fantastic biography. If I had teenaged kids and wanted to give them examples of character, decency, strong leadership, I'd share large chunks of this biography. Best one I've read in this calendar year.

The first book is a bit slow, but the murder is memorable and the subplot is one that brings you back.

Does a 20-year-overdue library book hold the clues to who murdered the patron who checked it out?
