Marla is starting The Correspondent
I just finished and am sitting with a lump in my throat. So many good things about this book. I loved the writing style, all correspondence. The beautiful written words. I find I express myself better writing instead of speaking. So with this book’s character. The book was beautifully connected through time, and through relationships, and with some mystery. Kudos to this one!!

This is a pretty quick read. I liked a lot about it. But it took a chapter or two to get into it. To really start to enjoy the characters. So stick with it. Parts will make you smile and more importantly parts will make you feel the frustration of some of America, just trying to be respected, earn enough to live on, and find happiness.

My daughter got me this book so even though I was uncertain about the 'weird' story early on as I read, I stuck with it. I' m glad I did. From the chapter called 'Advice to a Human' til the end it is profound, sometimes funny, touching, and endearing. It leaves you with a smile on your face onThe final page. Thanks for the book Lauren!

Marla is finished with The Sun Sister (The Seven Sisters, #6)
Finally finished it. It's a long book - very detailed. Too detailed. I had trouble staying interested in this book and hoped for some twist or surprise but it never really came. It was a Book Club selection and got a mixed review at our meeting. (I didn't get it finished in time - because it was SO long!)

Marla is reading The Great Passion
This was a sweet book about Sebastian Bach (the cantor and composer), his family, and a young student with an exceptional voice. I enjoyed this look into who Bach was, his tiredless work ethic, his love of God and music, and the family relationships.

Marla is starting Grace Will Lead Us Home: The Charleston Church Massacre and the Hard, Inspiring Journey to Forgiveness
I'm glad I read it although at times it was difficult. I live only an hour or so up the road from Emmanuel AME and I watched the media coverage. But, I didn't know about all that happened with the families in the days and months that followed.

There should be a category of ‘put it aside’ because this is a book I got for Book Club but just could not finish. I felt it frivolous and that it read like a travelogue. I didn’t care about the characters. So, I put the book down.

I’m almost done. I’m finding this book very interesting.. A smart lady. She had a unique childhood - and she was lucky (and worked hard) to be part of the Obama Administration. She gives insight from the inside.

I found this book in a local book sale. It's a fun read... a mystery that takes place in South Carolina.

Marla is starting Resilience: The New Afterword
Just starting. I found this book at a local Book Sale. I admired Elizabeth Edwards during her marital struggles, living in the political world, having everything broadcast. I think she faced her cancer with strength. So, I look forward to the read.

I got pulled into this book very quickly. It's an easy read, and the subject matter is fascinating. I'm not going to say too much yet because it's the Book Club read for this month. I can see already where we will have some good discussion from the plot.
