The sexism is way to much for me. I’m going to try and finish but it seems that all of the women in the book are victims of Stockholm syndrome and brainwashing. They are publicly spanked and humiliated to make them submissive and men are allowed to sleep around but women are not. Women are literally described as lesser than in this book but hopefully the heroine doesn’t cave and remains strong.

The sexism is way too much for me. I’m going to try and finish but I’m about halfway through and the sexism is horrid. Usually I give fantasy books a bit more leeway but it seems all women in the book are suffering from Stockholm syndrome and brainwashing considering they are publicly SPANKED and humiliated to make them submissive. Men can sleep around but women can’t and it’s all just icky.

Has anyone else noticed that it seems like the author switched plans for characters midway through the book? At first she was dropping hints that Larissa held some secret resentment towards Syn and Alden was described as corrupt but now Alden is her family and Larissa would die for her? Feels like an odd transition

I’m getting bad vibes from Larissa... she seems like a terrible friend...

Ok I’m a bit confused on why Caleb is getting attacked tbh. He was in the car with teammates saying some pretty shitty things but in the end, he didn’t say any of it himself. His teammates are grown men and he doesn’t control what they say or do. He should’ve spoken up, yes - but massive public outcry and interest in his private dating life because of it? Kind of odd.

So far I’m not a fan. I don’t think there’s enough context given or explanations for the characters so it’s difficult to get attached to any of them. There are chapters where a bunch of new characters are mentioned but never actually introduced. There’s usually a period at the start of any new fantasy series where readers are confused but that period is dragging on through half the book 😅
