Putting this aside for now. It's just not grabbing me at all, maybe I'll try again later.

Not quite ready to call it DNF, but have paused it for a while. It's just not grabbing me.

ughhh there's so many POV characters. Like 7? this does not bode well. Plugging away.

Hoo boy. I might not make it very far into this. I went looking for Canadian police crime books and Farrow came up but. The narrator is terrible and the writing does not mar me want to switch to ebook. I’ll stick it a bit longer.

I swear I'm going to finish this. Someday. For now, just leaving it here on the "currently reading list."

okay, goodreads, that is NOT the actual subtitle of this book. Those words do not appear anywhere on the title page or chapter headings. That's just a blurb and it's TERRIBLE. Make it go away.

The first few chapters were great, including when she starts making incredibly bad decisions in Monrovia. But now it's a slog and I'm hating that this book has been held out (by some? not universally?) as some sort of perimenopausal revelation. ugh. I'll keep slogging. Maybe it will get redeemed.

Putting this into the abandoned shelf. Too dense and incomprehensible for me.

I actually thought I'd read this (because at some point, perhaps accidentally, I marked it as 'read'). But I have absolutely never read this, and am reading it now in preparation for reading James. Also did the thing where I read the introduction so as to be prepared for the jarring things (and yeah, they are jarring even in the first 5 chapters). Also clear from the first 5 chapters: it's a classic for a reason.
