Hmmm. The author seems to have de-aged Bucky Barnes by about 10 years and gave him a new backstory, one where he's from Chicago instead of Brooklyn and one where he does not know Steve Rogers. Like, the whole Brooklyn/Steve Rogers thing is, like, what he IS? I've only just started, and it's not like I'm a major purist, but come on. Giving this a chance because I love Bucky/The Winter Soldier.

This is so good. I'm only disappointed that it's out-of-print because I want to recommend it to everyone I know.

I picked this back up & changed my mind. What a slog. I loved The Bone Clocks and Slade house (?) so much but this is just mediocre. The narrative structure is: scene where something major has already happened and then it’s peppered with flashbacks on how we got there. Over and over and over. It might be interesting if the characters weren’t so D U L L. Jasper is the only interesting one and he’s just 1/4. DNF.

Well. It is ostensibly a book about animal cruelty, and one of the main characters is married to a woman named "PETA." That's kind of hilarious.

Home stretch! The plot only kicked in at ~page 700. I love Mario, like Don, but am still not crazy about Hal.

This is what a Wes Anderson movie would be like as a novel if it lacked plot, humor, interesting characters. I have never before experienced such insufferable douchebaggery in my life. I've owned it since it came out in the 90s but never managed to read it. Till now. Till quarantine. I'm going to finish it so that I can say how much I hate it. What. Have. I. DONE.

A beautifully written, compelling story intertwining several timelines and narratives. If I do t stop now I’ll be up all night to finish it.

Listening to the audiobook while knitting. This is ostensibly the book version of Rocket Man - Taran Egerton (sp?) is a terrific narrator of Elton John's words. Elton John is a really good storyteller and, at times, freakin hilarious.

Yeah, this book is going on hold. It’s a relentless litany of “here’s the stupid thing that humans did, and then it gets worse. But wait! There’s even more worse than that!” It’s freakin depressing and upsetting, especially in this day of climate change denial and knowing that no matter what you do, you’re not going to make even the slightest bit of difference. Ugh.

I take it back: this book isn’t the least bit comforting. In fact, it’s downright horrifying and upsetting. Also? It never. Freakin. Ends. How long is this damn thing?! I read for 3 hours and progress like 2%. It’s a drag.

I've been really discouraged by all the climate change deniers, political awfulness, and people just being horrible in general. This book is a sciencey look at what would happen if humans just suddenly disappeared. It's quite comforting in a way. I just need to know that the world is going to be okay. Really well-written and interesting too so far.

It’s the book that never ends. Doesn’t help that absolutely none of these characters is likable. Interested in the underlying mystery, and that’s about it.

I'm really enjoying this so far. The author has so far deftly captured
Loki's character - he is both arrogant jerk and sympathetic, misunderstood underdog. Well-plotted too.
