This book is unnecessary long

I'm just saying, for the record, that I'm reading this book seasonally as was suggested to me by a neighbor. So this will take me a while year to read even though it's a tiny and quick book. I'm already disobeying the author though. Winter chapters emphasize "go outside anyway." Umm, I'm good under my blanket reading books, thanks

Getting really annoyed because I've found 2 typos already. Is this an ebook conversion problem or would I find them in the real book too? I'm just so annoyed that it seems like quality of publications have gone down in my lifetime. We are so illiterate in this world! Argh

How am I 100 pages into this book and still have no idea what is going on?

Gotta do the re-read before teaching. I don't see a ton of difference in this version compared to adult book. Wish I had both copies to compare.

Wish this book loan had come through earlier in vacation bc I wouldve gladly sped through it on a rainy day in PJs. Love it already & it's making me want to toss spin class & to do list out the window for the day. Here's a favorite line already, "Oh you two will have beautiful children,' Tom's grandmother said, staring at us from across the table. Joyce had cataracts, but she could still see the future, it seemed."

I love hearing the author read this herself...

This book is going slowly for me. Reading it at the gym a bit at a time...

seems like this will be full of gut punch quotes: "of computers I cannot say. I have never seen one"

so I'm 3 chapters in on this and already cried. will be a good one to read going into the holidays (yeah right, sob fest)

this is like a Scandinavian version of About Schmidt, no?

but I love that story so I bet I'll love this too

This book is so long I feel the need to celebrate my milestones. Past halfway. Still liking it!

I am liking this. It took about 70 pages for me to get in a rhythm, but I'm digging it now. It's hard reading this as an eBook because there is a long list of "cast of characters" that I do wish I could easily flip back and refer to, but it's annoying to do that on a device. I can see why it won the Man Booker...

There's some real zingers in this book. Overall, fast narration is unsettling to me,but @ same time I like it. It's uncomfortable. I suppose voice= title. I'm liking it more &more.

Striking line that made me pause...
"And then they look annoyed that they said something in unison. Then they fake smile at each other, but I’m starting to understand that smiling is really just another way of baring one’s teeth."

I'm in love with this writer, but damn. Felt like I was getting no where- even with two snow days. Then realized it was 600+pages. It'll be a minute...

I'm loving this book! I'm learning so much and I'm so proud of women when I read about our history. My favorite lines so far are about her husband and his cooking abilities: "On each clerk's birthday, Marty would bake a cake- almond or chocolate, sometimes ginger, lemon or carrot. The Justice would leave a to- the-point note: 'It's your birthday so Marty baked a cake'." hilarious

Putting this on hold for a few weeks so that I finish it closer to book club discussion. on to next summer read

re reading to see if I can propose teaching this one. liking it a little more now that I'm reading again

The chapters are dense and I keep falling asleep reading! I think I'll be done by book club date though
