Really enjoying this - it is amazing the records and letters that Wolff has available at his disposal. I'm very jealous re my grandparents' mystery story, which is mostly empty spaces connected by a few dots on a timeline. The book has me thinking about the ways in which we judge ancestors - especially those who fought on the "wrong" side of a war. My wife's great grandfather, for example.
