Up to the tech boom now. Chinese Americans have a firmly entrenched foothold in the U.S. now. But politicians keep using the same old fear-mongering tactics to make China and people of Chinese heritage scapegoats

In the early 1900s, aside from Asian prejudices, the stories of Chinese Americans seem to approach the experiences of other immigrant groups. Seconds generation ABCs see themselves as Americans first, to the chagrin of their parents, and despite how other white Americans view them.

It’s heartening to read the tales of Chinese and American-Born Chinese. Amidst all the prejudice against them in their new country, the humanity comes through. Great research by Iris Chang

Very interesting to read more about the history of Chinese Americans, and many aspects of their history are pertinent to what is happening in terms of polarization in the U.S. today

I had to stop reading 40 pages in. The author’s perceptions and misconceptions were front and center in every page. It was like reading a compiled set of intros to recipes on a food blog. That, combined with some strangely crafted theories of the evolution of humans (none of which were cited, of course, even though she took the time to cite other random quotes) convinced me that this was not the book for me.
