I’ve heard good things about Borison and I’m a sucker for anything seasonal, so here I am.

This was my BOTM choice and I am DEEPLY regretting it. Incredibly unsympathetic protagonist and a truly annoying writing style.

If I rated based on the main character doing things I hate this book just lost 4 stars

My BOTM pick for July. So far the FMC is coming across really preachy and I’m not loving it. Hoping there is some major character growth or at least some really funny scenes.

“There’s more beauty in the truth even if it is dreadful beauty. The storytellers at the city gate twist life so that it looks sweet to the lazy and the stupid and the weak, and this only strengthens their infirmities and teaches nothing, cures nothing, nor does it let the heart soar.”

I love Susan Meissner, but this one has been a slog. Really having a hard time finishing. I wish I could DNF books after the 20% mark but I just can’t.

Very underwhelming so far. Feels like a random mixture of various elements with no strong plot or character growth to keep me going.

This book + audiobook is addicting. I’m having a difficult time believing that this is a novel and not a documentary.

This book is going to need to get better by leaps and bounds. I am not enjoying it at all. The characters are unsympathetic, I already had to skip over a sex scene, and it isn’t full of the gorgeous descriptions of Alaska that were in Ivey’s book The Snow Child (which I loved). If I rated it right now it’d be a 1 star.

If you are on the fence about reading these books, let me just tell you that there is a funeral for a flower and not only is it hilarious, but it somehow fits perfectly into this little world Brower has created. These books are historical fiction, but they feel like fantasy in the best way.
