犬 means a dog in japanese but in chinese its more of a technical term for a dog - an interesting distinction. ive also seen that with 木 which means a tree in jp but in chinese it refers to the wood material; they use 树, a visually more complex character btw, to mean a tree.

this book makes me wonder if things like that actually happen in the states. like people casually walking to ur door and ask to be let inside ur house just cuz they lived there in the past.

the french word cordonnier (=shoemaker) comes from the spanish word cordouan (=fine leather) which comes from Córdoba (famous for high quality leather in the middle ages)
