It's a bit talky and reliant on dei ex machinae, but still entertaining.

Ah, the political struggle to get the navy authorized in the first place, and then the worry of finding proper materials.

Goodreads thinks I've read this before, but I don't remember it at all...

This is more of a coffee-table book, showing first the efforts to preserve and protect various artworks, then the German plundering operation, and finally the Western Allies' efforts to recover the stolen works.

Hitler's dead. (And there was much rejoicing. [Yay.]) The art, however, is still being sought out. When last seen, bombs were being emplaced in the storage caves...

And things are finally getting under way... (Lots of background info.)

Second time I've read it - I'm re-reading because I finally got my hands on the second one.
