I love Miriam Toews. She’s lived a life filled with so much sadness but still manages to be absolutely hilarious!

She grew up in my generation and the 70’s references alone had me laughing out loud. She also talks a lot about Winnipeg, a city close to me that I spend a lot of time in and that always endears me to her writing.

It’s written in an unusual way but is fun and sad and Miriam at her best!

What a great story this is.
These characters are real and authentic and believable.

I finished this book in two days, easily. It’s the kind of book that you need to finish.
It’s gritty and violent and funny and lovely, in the way only an Irish story can be.
