So far I read this book (not started) with the intention of explaining this to my superstitious friends, not unlike the twitter war nnt and dawkins get themselves into. Having read fooled by randomness, thinking fast and slow and following nnt and related fields knew most of it. Finally getting to interesting parts where im reading for myself again.

Taleb says casinos spend millions on surveillance tech but have lost millions on other incidents like kidnapping of the casino owners daughter, lion attack at a performance, failed attempted explosion by a disgruntled employee.
He says that casinos have missed out by focusing on other issues. Maybe they haven't lost millions on gambling *Because* of their surveillance tech. Tempted to get taleb onto a Twitter war

An anti-academic academic weaves a non-narrative narrative about predicting the unpredictable into the theory that rigid theories are bad.

just saw this on goodreads and had to have it as part of my review. LoL

Sextus the (alas) empirical, read this one page sub chapter.
He really annoys me here, tries to sound smart, name drops. Usually i appreciate his use of jargon, cause it increases clarity of what he tries to communicate. This was just overdone, similar to the ramblings of an incoherent intellectual we met at some bar.

Ok, Taleb can be a dick, he probably is.
He’s probably one of the smartest thinkers in the world, but he’s also a f****** idiot.

I’m just in the prologue and Taleb calls the bell curve “GIF: the great intellectual fraud”
This is gonna be fun

So far this book can be best summarised as her diary in this popular meme, with a Christian baby slave trade 1984 backdrop

Ive heard 3 things about this book.

its good.
lot of weird sex
similar theme to 1984.

so far i find the narration to be painful to read. to be honest I'm reading atwood because friends say she's good and i need to read more woman authors to fill my diversity quota.
don't anticipate spending too much time, will try to finish it in a week or 2.

This last chapter could have been written by gorge Orwell himself. Like a planning commission discussing how to implement a double think, or influence the public. It also reminded me of some articles on the site medium.com , exquisitely written, fine reasoning, but ultimately selling a garbage philosophy only for the masses to lap it up.

wow! can Ayn rand write.
this last chapter was some of the most explosive writing I've ever been witness to.
It was a weird seduction of two strange souls culminating in what is an absurd consexual rape.
whoa.

Ever had that feeling when you have so much to do that you get overwhelmed and get absolutely nothing done. I need to update my system to things to do to prevent a decision paralysis. So far allen's book seems simple and straightforward enough
