Although a fun ride with cool action scenes, I found the pacing to frantic, and the characters to dull. I didn’t care what happened to the 7 “devils” that were supposed to deliver the new princess to her throne. It felt like the plot repeated itself over and over, and the characters stayed so tightly into their trope that you never got a chance to find any depth. I’ve heard great things of Abercrombie, sad

The characters in this book slightly differ from the original pillars in the first half with similar plot lines. The first five hundred pages feel as if I’m re reading pillars with fill in characters I’m not quite as engaged with. What’s keeping me interested is diving back into history 200 years later when medicine and the legal system are just starting to find its way.
