The past-events-written-in-present-POV-with-current-future-thoughts-interjected is really growing on me. He’s got so many friends and his idiocy in the moment gets shadowed by his current understanding of what he had upon reflection and I kind of like that.

Poor Duncan 😭

I could not have asked for a better reread post-Morning Star. This book is just as good as I remember and is so incredibly complex and fascinating all the way through to the last page, even on the premise that the MC is like 7 when we start. What a beautiful and thought-provoking book. 4.3/5

5 stars. 10 stars. All the stars, shattered and destroyed and then pieced back together in a fractured and heartfelt way. There are no words to describe how much this book has simultaneously wrecked and filled me. Mostly wrecked. I have trust issues after this but somehow it’s worth it. Every last word is so beautifully crafted, even the dumb boy jokes. Elegant, masterful, soul-shattering perfection.

So Paul is the preacher… interesting. Still don’t know if him leaving was the right choice. Also, it explains a lot about Duncan, who remains my favorite.
