Will Roland/Joe Iconis/Joe Tracz’s Jeremy Heere is fat superior to Ned Vizzini’s Jereme Heere. Anything morally questionable that Will Roland’s does can be attributed to the SQUIP but Ned Vizzini’s is just a dick.

Same goes for Jeremy’s dad. In the play, he is clearly depressed and not being his best self in spite of best intentions. In the book as far as I can tell he is just a douche.

So far I like the characters in the play better. Michael Mell was one of my all time favorite queer characters in the play and I don’t think I like him as a straight white dude. And Christine as a smart, quirky, curvy Asian girl is far superior to the book’s normatively beautiful blonde girl I only know is smart because the author keeps telling me.

I’m finding myself feeling desperately thirsty while reading this so if nothing else it will have a positive effect on my skin and hair. I was instantly sucked in, though, and have no idea what’s going on in the world around me because I can’t put it down.

I'm very much loving the book but one thing has struck me: in the first book, Daneel was portrayed as nearly human. In the second book, he was at least Baley's sort of equal partner. In this book, he is just a robot. I'm guessing this is intentional but we'll doesn't

"A robot is logical only, not reasonable."
I'm really intrigued by this distinction between logic and reason as I am by the distinction between viewing and seeing. I'm wondering how the viewing/seeing distinction is reflected in the way we interact with social media now--just a thought, need to think on if more.

Thus far I'm really into the direct parallel between the popular view of Robot labor in the book and the contemporary xenophobic views of immigrant labor in the US. Obviously this is why I love sci-fi but this seems particularly topical. Particularly the discussion of it being easier to turn disquiet toward individual robots for taking jobs instead of turning that energy toward more abstract forces like states.

Just finished "Reason" and it was really powerful. How have I been a reader and specifically a lover of good sci-fi so long and not read this?

4 possible villains just showed up and I'm getting flashes of reading a) A Wrinkle In Time, b) this middle grade sci-fi novel I read a few years ago called Tanglewreck and c) the villains in The Graveyard Book. Loved those books but feel a bit disheartened since Neal Shusterman doesn't usually do full on villains. Hoping this proves more complex than just 4 villains in pastel suits. I'm sure it will.

Wow. This book explains money and gold and inflation and unions and labor in a way that is interesting and teen friendly. All that stuff I didn't understand in my college economics class suddenly makes sense--could have skipped the class and just read this book (only not because I don't think it had been written)

They just mentioned the Arápache Rez! I was so hoping they were going to bring back in the storyline about the ChanceFolk from UnStrung. This series is EVERYTHING!

One of the new main characters introduced in this book is a young woman with an intellectual disability and she freaking rules! Loving her so far and this book more generally (I want to say it's my favorite in the series so far, but I've loved them all)

This has already gotten good--he just brought capital punishment into the mix, what?! Love that Neal Shusterman encounters controversial issues and dives in with both feet. And somehow manages to do so in a way that honors both sides fully. Excited to see where this goes but already know it will be good. This is the first I have had the opportunity to read for pleasure since the book was released a year ago--excited!

Loving this book so far. Sort of makes me think of "the earth, my butt, and other big round things" and a few other feminist authors' takes on mean girl cliquey novels but with a really well written trans protagonist and some interesting class stuff woven in. Can't wait to read more

I just had to cut myself off because it's really late and I kept reasoning that I'd go to sleep after one more chapter. So far I'm really loving it. Into references to the Crucible, into the way that mean-girl bullying is portrayed, into the way it definitely does not feel like an "issue" book only trans or queer students would enjoy, yet the novel still represents the trans character well.

I can already tell that this is going to be one of those books I read slowly because I need to savour every line. I don't often get caught up on language, but I will read the first part of a sentence and think it's saying one thing & make it to the end of the sentence & realize it's saying the opposite & that bit of conflict elicits the kind of strong emotional connection that I am usually too closed off to have.

really not into the fact that one of the main characters says he got tested and is "clean"--maybe i wouldn't judge the whole book by this if it wasn't supposed to be a book that specifically deals with hiv in a queer teen friendly way because messed up stuff happens in otherwise good books all the time but srsly, does the author need to feed into the stigma that poz folx are somehow unclean? boo

complicated feelings bout this book so far. really really really not into the fact that they keep calling things retarded and also just a little worried the author is going to totally vilify people living with hiv/aids (not something i've seen in the book yet, just something i'm generally nervous about, maybe he'll totally do a good job). i'm also enjoying it too, just nervous and feeling kinda like "we'll see"

This book is so good, how come only one of my friends on goodreads has read it? It's a pretty quick read thus far (like I'll probs read the whole thing in one day) and there's something special about it that makes it different from other books. Plus it's set in the 90s, duh

I'm so into this book right now but am kind of undecided as to how I feel about the role of women/girls in the book. So far there just really basically aren't any (or there scarcely are) but they just introduced one so I guess we'll see
