All I have read of Act 2 so far is the setting (stage directions) and I am already devastated

He really drops you into the most interesting day of these people’s lives and gives them crazy high stakes. His writing - impeccable. He is a giant of the American theatre for a reason.

Ok started this book because my mom has it on audible without knowing it was about (at least at the beginning) a woman who is suicidal and like kudos to the author for keeping it light and fun BUT I literally just fought my own bout of depression that did not necessarily contain suicidality, but contained a lot of “why am I alive and maybe I wish I wasn’t” so this is kind of a weird pull but I’m liking it???

Ok the stuff about Henrietta herself and the HeLa cells and their influence and science and the ethics behind how the family didn’t know they were taken is insightful and exactly what I was looking for when I picked this book up…. But we have reach a point in the book where some very invasive details about other members of her family are being outlined, and I’m not sure how I feel about that.

I think this book is introducing me to a new world of literature that I didn’t know I would like. It’s such a slow burn, but in a way that I find wildly entertaining. I get excited to ride the train because that means I can peel away another layer of the onion this author is revealing… exciting!

This is one of my dad’s all time favorite authors - my second attempt to get into him and this time it gets a gold star because I am enthralled so far!

I do not know enough about the Harlem renaissance, and it is a very important deeply known season of history to many of my close friends. Spotify has recorded two books from the period and I’m going to listen to them. Cheers!

I just started this, and I’m excited!! I am slightly frustrated because there are moments where the pretentiousness in the voice of the author makes me roll my eyes. He said he had “all the worlds knowledge in the palm of his hand” and now he is searching for the unknowns... all the worlds knowledge???? Anyway!!! I am excited to take this journey through the history of European Christianity !!

After my freshman year of college I was jazzed about learning about Islam, but I got overwhelmed by how I was going about it. This book is a really easy way in. I intend to reach to non-white authors to learn more about Islam as I continue. I’ve learned lots so far, but a sweet little tid-bit is that Islam means surrender in Arabic! The whole religion is based around surrendering to Allah!!!
