Is it hot in here or is it just this dialogue? Whoa.

Page 11 and a woman has already been described as “pneumatic.” Good stuff here.

She’s an honest to goodness chick-lit writer. But man, this is one long book...

Plodding along. Not so impressed with the characters, but interesting setting.

Free reading on the Nook app; chapters are released in serial form. The chapters are fairly short in that James Patterson sort of way, albeit with less action. Good, addictive summer read, though.

Shana is starting Hotel Scarface: Where Cocaine Cowboys Partied and Plotted to Control Miami
First impressions: I've long been fascinated by the subject matter. Psyched about reading this. However, when you come at me right off the bat with a "Cast of Characters" spanning a page and a half, I'm not sure if that's helpful or a cop-out in not wanting to give me background on the players as the book progresses. Let's see where this goes.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I liked her Modern Love essay enough, and Ada Calhoun and I both have shared history on St. Marks Place. However, as another reviewer mentioned, I keep getting vibes of "smug" and "self-satisfied." I'll carry on, though...

Can't put this down. Like his ancestors, he can tell a story. Like his rockabilly and blues idols, he does it with intrigue and just the right bit of tenderness.

In the middle of yet another book with so many POVs. It's not feeling quite suspenseful enough, though. Fun fact: this is the first ebook that I've borrowed from the New York Public Library.

Generally, I'm not a fan of multi-character POV's, but in this book, they work. The world of Wall Street rainmaking is so alien to me, and the most of the characters strike me as particularly terrible people--maybe that's why I can't stop reading this.

These tales of the upper-crust, what with their boarding schools, are so foreign to me, so I find this intriguing. Can't put it down.

Eh--it's difficult for me to pinpoint my feelings so far. Sometimes I feel as if I'm reading poignant passages, other times I feel as if I'm muddling through.

This makes a lot of sense. Surprised/bummed that my "living age" is a year older than I actually am!

Initially, a little challenging for me to get into with the bouncing back and forth in time and narration, but I'm really enjoying it now. Dialogue is well-written. I'm thinking this will be finished by tonight!

While the book's premise is nothing new, I'm obsessed with the culture surrounding what we eat and why we eat it. Dana Goodyear offers a comprehensive exploration of the culinary and foodie worlds as they exist in America today.
