Came in here to ask: do both the Gallowglass and Christopher plot points feel … inorganic? There’s no real tension or plot-based reason for gallowglass to feel the way he does and I didn’t even remember Christopher from book 1 and now he’s her overprotective best friend? Idk vibes are off.

No joke this is the third time I tried to read this and on this try I am super into it. So weird how that happens!

I was so captivated by Angels and Demons in my teens that I will always read the newest Robert Langdon installment. Before reading Dan Brown I had no idea books could be such an adventure.

Ok so I’m enjoying the story but I have a few complaints: (1) if a character isn’t white or thin, the author describes how they deviate, (2) when describing being sore after childbirth, the main character fully uses the C word and (3) the audiobook narrators do…. unnecessary accents.

This is giving me The Book Thief vibes but only because it’s long, kind of classic, and I wish I read it when it came out. And also I’m really enjoying it.

This is supposed to make readers want to become a power lifter, right?

Each time I enjoy a book of poetry I remember when I did a presentation for my library about what to read this summer and I recommended a book of poems. Participants were excited and the host said no one’s ever recommended poetry before. I think most readers like poetry but there’s a lot to sort through. I think you have to find a poet who writes how you would. This for me is Maggie Smith, and a couple others.

Woah woah woah. The description said the main character faces a tragedy and has to go to jail but I was not expecting THAT. I literally gasped and said, “no way, that didn’t happen.” It was almost too much for me but I powered through and am living in this tragic and complicated world with him.

Is this book supposed to make you want to read all the books on the list?

If you’re going to read this book, I highly recommend audio. The narrator is so talented and such a pleasure to listen to. Like, the story itself is gory and grave and the voice actor gets low and gravely to match it. He also has a distinct and realistic voice for each character.

The writing is so good - even before anything really happens I was in it.

Another one I originally DNFed and gave a second chance.

Alright, as soon as I updated saying this was moving a little slow, it sped up. The part with the red apple/green apple. I thought it was just going to be these two people trudging through each part of hell but then more characters started to emerge.

Also, this author is so smart. Like, it's not just good storytelling. There is so much to learn too.

NGL I am struggling with this one a little bit. The philosophy and magick discussions between the two characters are holding my interest enough that it’s keeping me going. I would even say I’m enjoying it. But when they’re traveling through Hell, weirdly, it’s a little boring.

TLDR: I am really enjoying the dialogue, not so much the action.

Giving this one another shot.

Sometimes I’ll love the premise of a book but the execution will fall short. This is not the case so far with this book.
