Good descriptions of the challenges of the year. Katy Kontent was a good character and modern for her time. I found it hard to stay interested in this book. It got most interesting about 2/3 of the way into the book.

The detail in fighting in Italy is sad and also enlightening. They all stuck together. There was fighting between the men from different backgrounds that are lumped together. Most of it is because of where they’ve been born so culturally they are different as a result.

The discrimination of American Japanese should never be forgotten. Put in concentration camps in the US while some are allowed to fight for the country that has their families locked up and treated so poorly. The stories of the struggles is sad yet inspiring. Separate divisions for Japanese Americans. What a tough time to be an American. Definitely recommend this book.

Did not know that they had a separated out American Japanese division until reading this. Interesting to read the battle between Hawaiian Pidgin vs mainland. So many struggles with so few people questioning the segregation of good Americans.

So much history is so easily overlooked. A friends dad had been put in an internment camp as an American Japanese and this story blows me away. A definite read. Land discriminations against Asians in the early 1900s and then concentration camps along the west coast.

Wheat is worse for you than sugar or alcohol. So much factual evidence to make me never want to eat modern wheat in anything ever again. So many issues caused by wheat, gut problems (IBS, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, etc) skin problems (rashes, eczema, acne, etc), migraines, thyroid problems (hashimotos), hair loss, arthritis, dementia and more.
