"but then what are stepparents for if they can't be used in little skirmishes between blood relatives?" - smoothest analogy for proxy wars i've ever read. gagged.

"in catch-22, heller deconstructs the normative assumptions of the catcher in the rye by shifting the breakdown from the subject to the rhetoric, that is, from "the catcher" to the "catch" - i am LIVID that i didn't come up with this. i read both of these books this year.

alan nadel just like me fr because his film analysis is noticeably worse/simpler than his work with novels

reading about salinger and the cold war from another source makes me feel less crazy but also i fear that me and mister nadel are just a very specific brand of crazy which understands that the only way to exhume salinger’s work these days is to throw historical context at the wall and see what sticks to salinger’s author photo

okay well when i say a book is the nuclear book of all time, that doesn't mean i actually want that to be the canonical case. it's more fun when that ISN'T the case, actually, because why are we talking about bilateralism and the end of historical narrative so frankly.

i know i can be slow sometimes by why would you dampen such brilliant ideas by writing Like This. i simply do not have time for endless metaphors. please say what you mean. also in a way that’s cogent, thank you.

nadel writes like he wants you to suffer but “history is a cipher for omission, and the process of representation is never one of proportionality but of narrativity” is a bar
