How terrifically sad and beautiful this story is unfolding. The meat of the story is a struggle, but not in a way that vampire stories typically develop an internal struggle for a character arc- the MC is mulling over the possibilities of life and who she is and what she is - the story explores this otherness of body and identity and how we relate socially- with food and with what vulnerabilities we can share.

Ack! I’ve been in a bit of a reading rut and gave this book a whirl. IT IS SO FREAKING GOOD already! The story drops you into the narrators POV immediately without over explaining and lets the audience catch up along the way. The narrator’s troubles/goals merge with a journal discovered the time in US history when Native Americans and buffalo were being exterminated. The historical details of mundane cruelty…

I’m really enjoying the audiobook- the voice actor has such natural emotional range and all her accents are really well done! It’s such a great read!
