Only on page 2, but the 2nd person point of view has me off kilter already. In a good way, I think?

Kudos for coming up with one of the most grotesque and macabre images I’ve ever read. Not gory or violent but so unsettling that every time it’s mentioned it makes my skin crawl.

Alexandra Vasti has perfected the art of writing her reader into secondhand embarrassment. I’m already utterly mortified for Lydia.

Somehow I am on my 3rd amnesiac FMC this month. How? And honestly not sure I like how it impacted the plot and my experience of it in the last two. Let’s see how it goes. 3rd time’s the charm?

I’ve been looking forward to this one since the author announced it! Jenny Proctor is an auto-read author for me. Doing a ridiculous happy dance that my ARC request was approved.

Super excited that NetGalley approved my arc request. Never expected when I started the Sweater Weather series that I would fall in love with a minor league hockey team from western North Carolina.

Super excited for this one which is marketed as Labyrinth meets folk horror.

Emma was literally just named dropped, and the FMC has all of the characteristics I don’t like about the Austin heroine. As things stand, I actively don’t think she’s right for the MMC and that he could do better. Debating whether I continue to see if she actually learns something. Haven’t been this frustrated by a female protagonist in a while.

Absolutely no idea if it’s intentional or not but this book is reminding me of Emma. For pieces of the plot, but especially the FMC. Not sure how this will go considering she is my least favorite Austin heroine.

I have a feeling this love triangle is going to be turned on its ear and that the set up so far has the potential to be a fake out. Truly not sure how I feel about that.

I have no idea how this can possibly resolve in 20 pages.

Apparently the author says it’s Jane Eyre and Rebecca meets Crimson Peak, which honestly has me even more intrigued.

This Mr. Rochester (because I’m still convinced this is a Jane Eyre retelling) is a professor of mythology and speaks Irish. Feel free to lock me in the attic.

At first blush this appears to be Jane Eyre in an academic setting. Time will tell.

I can’t stand this FMC. She’s miserable and is going to ensure everyone around her is as well. And she has her reasons, but is taking it out on people who don’t deserve it. The MMC has “loved her for years” but given how she’s behaving, I don’t know how he still can.

For a book to begin with a list of the dead… this is going to be devastating.

Not sure what this says about me, but gotta love a meet cute that is also attempted murder.

I have only heard good things about this one so far, and Lisette Marshall is a master of flirty banter, so I am super excited for an enemies to lovers Regency fantasy romance.

That reveal happened much earlier than I expected it to. Which likely things are going to get much worse before they get better.

So this book is set in Galway, has a socially awkward MMC, and has literally said he looks like he’d fit in with the Peaky Blinders. I’m having so much fun here.

Cute. And other than an obliviously callous but not intentionally malicious family, mostly low stakes, which is nice every now and then.

Interesting that a fantasy novel is setting itself in our world but a historical context. Danish Prince Aerik is definitely referencing other versions of this story we already know. I’ve seen shades of Hans Christian Andersen and Disney already.

The lack of a ton of world building isn’t bothering me near as much as a 19 year old who insists on calling a 17 year old “lass” as if he isn’t equally as young and immature as she is.
