i really do just want to finish this now

i enjoyed ‘the bone fields’ faaaar more than i thought i would, and more than i enjoyed ‘his black tongue’, which is a surprise

riiight this had me and then it lost me. i love the medieval aspect and the heavy focus on religion, super interesting to me. then it lost me because it just felt so outlandish. for the whole of the last maybe 10-15 pages of the first story, i was just begging that the next page would be the last. the fight was just sooo long.

just wow so far. listening to the audiobook while reading it is just so so so immersive. the audiobook is incredible?!?!! i’m soooo intruiged i just cannot wait to keep reading

i tried to read this a while ago and only got about 10% in before giving up. persevered this time and i’m so glad i have, the writing is so beautiful and poignant whilst simultaneously being witty. excited to read on!!

YUUUUUUP!!!! ashamed that i’ve never read these before and it’s the perfect time of year to finally get to it

dnf at 38%. i usually have so much guilt about dnf’ing a book that i’ll stick it through to the painful end, but i have more respect for myself than to do that with this book. painfully boring.

really struggling with this but my hatred for dnf’ing books is keeping me afloat ONLY JUST… it’s so underwhelming. i’m bored to death .

i’m googling every other word… vocab is getting expanded today!!

i don’t understand the reasoning behind turning real, *horrible* people into fictional versions of themselves. all this succeeds in doing is making me increasingly uncomfortable the more i read about the real people that are being romanticised here.

1/4 into this book and the fanfic-esque allegations are true, it reads like an au fanfic. it feels so far removed from any medieval historical elements. the kcd2 hans x henry marketing led me here but i’m disappointed so far. i’m also bored.

fighting the urge so bad to dnf…

‘in praise of navel gazing’, was nothing short of inspirational. i agree so much with febos’ notion that it is transformative to write, and read, about the human experience. i think it helps me remember that i’m alive.

instantly moved by this book.

i find so much fulfilment in reading about the human experience, in all of its highs and lows. i think i would be lost without it!

coming back to add that my only problem is I NEED MORE DRAGON LORE i was biting my nails for the first what 200 pages waiting for the dragons to show up properly. less men MORE DRAGONS

i got so angry reading this how did pretty much every adult in his life fail him
