my only gripe with this book so far is that, having lived here for almost 10 years, the frequent references to Prague being a city in which people are often in costume just…isn’t true??? It’s fiction, ofc, and it adds to the mysticism but as a local it’s quite a jarring untruth

this is the best Emily Henry book. Such beautifully crafted stories woven together. A well paced love story balanced against a truly interesting plot. I love thissss

Woweee I’m finding out that Hayden’s ex has the same name as me and I’m feeling like it’s going to be really hard to hate her if I’m supposed to (but this is EH so I’m hoping it was a nuanced/amicable breakup lol)

truly so funny, honestly so cute. The first real heart to heart between Margaret and Alice is making me cryyyy and laugh and squeeeaaallll.

Also, I understand why TJR gave a comment for the cover since this is verrryyy Evelyn Hugo so far (but better?)

I’m not a DNFer but this book is really terrible :// the chemistry isn’t there and Rosie is an Instagram-stalker creep (and she should go to the library to get some work done lol), but MAINLY the grey sweatpants thing is painfully 2016-cringe

I didn’t know what to expect when we were pushed headfirst into a sex scene BUT the writing is great, the story is captivating, and I LIKE IT A LOT RIGHT NOW. Lots of relatable content about aimlessness, being stifled by a fuck up after years of trying to hard, etc etc

I love the concept, but I’m 41% in and basically nothing has happened besides repetitive comments from Callie about money troubles and being “in over her head”. None of the characters have any depth as of yet, and if a romance is supposed to blossom between Brodie and Callie, OR the ghosts come around and Callie fits perfectly, it surely should start soon…

Why is Florence’s first chapter basically just a rehashing of the chapter before? Couldn’t this all be implied, rather than directly repeating the dialogue in full?

The biggest thing plaguing me throughout this book is the references to the characters multilingualism. Obnoxious and unrealistic. Maybe it’s a special and exciting ‘quirk’ for American readers but — as Hazelwood should know, given her upbringing — for people who HAVE moved around a lot or speak multiple languages, you don’t reference it so often (e.g., the poem “roughly translating” from French)

I studied at a research university and these “hypotheses” aren’t sound and that is bothering me. Chapter 4

liking it! it’s a little on the nose with characters; we have a brooding detective, obsessed with noticing details about people but wishing they knew nothing about her. At one point she describes a student with a paintbrush and pencil in her hair, wearing a white shirt stained with paint…obviously an artist. I can’t quite tell if this is deliberate or just weak. We’ll see

I can already tell this is going to be a book with poignance and wisdom and people won’t believe me when I tell them bc it’s classed as chick lit and has a cute cover…sighhhh

Whimsical and cute but not as poignant as I was expecting, especially when compared to “Before the Coffee Gets Cold”. It’s also quite repetitive, we KNOW your dad does the real detective work, Koishi…we know the place is hard to find, and that the cat isn’t allowed in.
It is definitely a peaceful read and I’m enjoying it — I’m over halfway through and I began an hour or less ago, it feels familiar :)

I DNFd this book at 30% or so 4 years ago. It didn’t capture my attention at the time, I think I might just e needed something lighter. I’m reading it now, from the beginning, and I can already tell I like it much more this time around

Though I’ve taken a few days to read this, the story is whizzing by. I’m genuinely captivated by Frances’ diaries and Annie’s reality in equal measure…at 82% I’m still not entirely sure how this mystery is going to play out.
