I tried, I really did, to pick up literally anything else but my brain refused to leave the Red Rising universe. So here we are for a reread, fully prepared to have my feelings absolutely wrecked again.

Whaaaaat the helly is this. The writing reads like Wattpad-level angst.

Actual enemies that are lovers? Nothing like a little looming threat of death, betrayal, and power struggles to spice up the romance. And it be spicy…

I know I’m easily excitable about books but THIS BOOK IS INCREDIBLE. Can already tell it’s going to be shooting to the top of my all time favourite reads and there’s still half to go.

Halfway through and realised… absolutely nothing has happened. Genuinely impressed by how many words it’s taken to deliver zero character development.

Persevering. But the info dumping so far is bordering on criminal.

This exactly why I love reading. There’s nothing like diving deep into a long-ass fantasy series - spending time with these characters, getting to know the world inside and out, and just enjoying the ride. It’s such a joy to sink into something this epic.

Ohhh — this one’s part of the Blood of a Fae universe! Didn’t realise that at all. ‘Twas a good series so have high hopes for this.

I’m a third of the way through, and I kid you now I still have 16 hours of reading left. And this is just the first of five published books - out of a planned *ten*. Sanderson does not mess around.

She did NOT have to do me like that. Haven’t cried like that in a while… this book is wrecking me.

Two pages in, and I have absolutely no idea what’s happening - I’ve forgotten everything from the last book like it’s a plot twist just for me. God speed.

Going back to my roots.

I thought this was a standalone series but it’s set roughly 15 years after An Ember In the Ashes so if you’re planning on reading that series make sure you do it first ✌️

I caved. Said I wouldn’t touch another SJM book after the cluster fuck that was Kingdom of Ash.. and yet here we are.

Meant to be a standalone book but it’s an expansion of a previous series and so much background was either piled on and boring to read or non existent. Couldn’t keep up.

DNF and it cost $15 on kindle. Ridiculous.
