Her age is so telling throughout each chapter. Thinking she’s so self-aware, even more aware than her mother, and then constantly referring to her for guidance; how to think, how to act, how to be less than human around men… She thinks she’s so self-aware (and is for his age), but it’s still so sad to read how she views the world. She has nobody to look up to or to take care of her

“On the drive with Mr. Korgy, he asked me to duck at the stop lights. On the third time he apologizes. He tells me he feels terrible about it, but that he can’t risk someone seeing me in his car, and that it’s just for around town, and that once we’re out of town, I can sit up straight.

this book is very clever

i love anabel so much. its so fun to get attached to characters and then you remember that they aren't real and all you have of them is what the author shares and your imagination plays with
