I shouldn't have read the spoiler... Awww :( it doesn't really ruin the enjoyment, but I wish I had the mind of someone who hadn't known anything about the story beforehand.

Tamest, boringest retelling of Yotsuya Kaidan so far.

I associate Tuttle with quality translation. I have no issue with the story curation, but it has more grammatical mistakes than I would have expected from a book published under Tuttle. 139 pages in and I already found at least 5.

The stories in this book chilled me and filled me with despair.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

People have the tendency of placing other people on pedestals accompanied with the firm belief that their idols can commit no wrong. Scientists and researchers are sometimes gullible for this too, with disastrous consequences.

Jesus. I'm struggling so much to read this because the way he was writing about his effort to study Vietnamese rubbed me the wrong way. I was rubbed the wrong way even more after reading his writing on Korean... Dude. Are you aware how many similar words that Korean shares with Japanese? Both call bags 'kaban', carbon 'tansan', and many more that I can't recall right now.

Adam Trask. So blind. His glory might be opened at last, but maybe the light that accompanies it is too bright... And why, Charles? Why did you betray your sibling so?

Too many Thomases. The cardinal, the religion-obsessed one, and the sly one. Henry is almost logical. I always picture him as a little bit crazy.

Feeling real pity to those field workers. Everyone, don't let those vegetables and fruits rot uneaten!

Let's face it. I am BORED with this book. I think I'll stop reading it for awhile. I'm lucky this is a nonfiction which contains stand-alone stories in each of its chapter.

Paris was a truly interesting city that time, but also dangerous. Full of menace.

I like Lord Peter Wimsey more and more. Btw, is it the name 'Death' common among British royalty?

A strong, nice story for opening. So far I love this collection. I love both Sayers' choice of words, which are bouncy, nifty, and her plots. If you're fluent in French, or at least well acquainted, it will immensely help you understand and guess some of the clues in her story.
