So-so but it's critical of the USSR in a way that doesn't give context to the Tatar identity. It's written in a way that's like "the grass is always greener"--- kind of idealizing Tatar life before the conquest of Kazan, before Ivan, before the Bolsheviks, etc. At this point the reader asks, well then who have the Tatars been at each stage in history? Surely they are not victims of circumstance. I hope to find out.
