This book pissed me off. At its core, it romanticizes trauma to sustain the life of a small town island. Based on the synopsis, this gives the vibe of a folksy small town mystery with a romance, but it’s more horrific than that. The plot went into unnecessary tangents and wasn’t fully resolved. The witchcraft element was more disturbing than I expected especially since that’s the cause of so much misfortune.

It took me too long to finish this book. I loved the writing, but was very little plot and more self reflection from characters. The basic plot is four English women answer an ad to stay at an Italian medieval castle for a summer holiday. The Italian atmosphere influences these women to let loose and not be so headstrong in their ways of living/thinking. Overall, I wish there had been a bit more action and drama.

Debating whether to DNF this. I was hoping to enjoy something by King, but the writing style and instruction just isn’t for me.
