What makes a feminist retelling? If it’s putting a female character front and centre then this is it. If it’s showcasing their strength… I don’t know if this is it. Rather it has me feeling not just sympathy and empathy towards Hera, but pity. It’s definitely a different way of reading her than I’ve come across before.

I don’t always like Mary Burton books as the style and plot reminds me too much of Karen Rose without the ‘something special’ that draws me into those books. However, this one was very strong and I loved the characters of Kendall, Warwick, Ayden and Nicole.

It’s possible I’m too deep into my dissertation on Nell Gwyn, but I did find this comedy really quite funny it parts and could spot the moments of farce. I’d recommend it, it’s a lovely text.
