DNF. Written by someone who claims to be such a fantastic writer and has all of her awards listed in her Goodreads bio, I just don't get it. She can't stop talking about how whiny and insecure her husband is. I will not survive this book.

I have never wanted to put down a book faster.

These are the first lines (listening to the audio): "In the beginning, I was only myself. Everything that happened to me, I thought, was mine alone. Then I married a man, as women do. My life became archetypal, a drag show of nuclear familyhood. I got enmeshed in a story that had already been told ten billion times."

She's clearly never seen a drag show...

I haven't appreciated an intro so much as this one in quite a while.

DNF. I'm not sure if part of the horror genre is repeating slurs and shitty, disgusting yet pretty unoriginal things that have happened in the world. It doesn't count as writing good horror to me.

Holy shit the rampant homophobia in this book, I had no idea. I thought the horror part was supposed to be about a clown.

Fucking delightful. It's giving Hench and Starter Villian.

Out of nowhere this just got really Jesus-y, wtf.

I'm glad I sat on this one until I felt closer to mentally prepared. 😆

Wow, this is super ableist already.

DNF. I think this one would be better as print than audiobook. It's hard to follow the shifting characters in the audiobook if I'm not paying closer attention because there are a lot of nuanced relationships and family trees.

I haven't been so thoroughly swept up by a book in quite awhile.

I have so many theories, I am cackling, so fun.

This is gloriously funny. Queer 16 year olds running around in a world of super heroes plus what I can only assume is the best of T.J. Klune's snark. I am having a great time reading this.

Fabulous for examples of what not to do. I need to learn to put books down.

I am going to need to read this actually five times to absorb this book. It's so well written but I keep spacing off as I listen to the audiobook because it makes me think about my own disabilities, biases, experiences around disability I haven't ever considered...

Good but this could be significantly shorter. The irony.

Calling it quits on this one.

Quitting this one. Bland, just ok. Not at all funny? I don't need more stories of queer people having experiences ranging from somber-sad to just boring-unsettling without the essays coming to an actual point. I'm pretty sure it's not that this went over my head.

This is such a fun and freaky book. I'll be sad when I finish it.
